Steve’s audience at SQL Saturday were primarily SQL developers, along with seasoned DBAs. As Steve is a Database Administrator, he urged both sides (developers and DBAs) to understand the problems each other may face during the encryption process; that would be especially important when creating the Master Key. During the seminar, there were a number of developers and DBAs that didn’t know the DBA was responsible for creating the Master Key. The highlight of the seminar came with Steve’s recitation of an original poem, in a “Lord of the Rings” fashion, to encapsulate the essence of MS SQL Encryption; for this, he received a thunderous applause. We’ve posted it here for your enjoyment.
Three creates for the DBA-kings under the sky,
3 Keys for the Developer-lords in their halls of stone,
3 selects for Mortal users doomed to die,
One OS DPI for the Systems Engineer on his dark throne
In the Land of SQL where the Data lie.
One Grant to rule them all, One Grant to find them,
One Select to Select them all and in the darkness bind them
in the Land of SQL where the Data lie. |
